3 of the Best Pool Games

the words Swimming Pool Games superimposed over water
It’s been an incredibly hot summer so far, and keeping cool has been hard to do. While the summer is soon to fade, there’s still some time left to make staving off the heat all the easier. We have a wonderful sparkling swimming pool here at Crofton Village. With it comes the opportunity to relieve the sun’s burn while enjoying some awesome pool games. So while the weather's still warm, make sure to jump into the pool to enjoy one of the swimming games we’ve listed below!

Octopus
When it comes to this game, the more players you have, the better! Every player in this game tries to get from one side of the pool to the other without being tagged by whoever is ‘it.’ As players are tagged, they join its team, holding hands with them in the middle of the pool and effectively becoming part of the ‘octopus’ to tag those swimming by. With enough players, you’ll soon find a long line of defense blocking the other side of the pool. The last standing player who is not a part of the octopus chain becomes the next ‘it.’

 Shark
This is a classic that never gets old. No need for the “Jaws” theme here, unless you want to add it in for extra effect. One player, as the shark, tries to tag other players in the water to make them the new shark. Depending on the chosen rules, players are either allowed to be out of the pool for five seconds at a time to avoid the shark tagging them, or not allowed to leave the pool at all for added difficulty.

Marco Polo

Most everyone who has enjoyed time in a pool knows the name “Marco Polo” for the water-centered game. The easy call and response is simple enough to be understood even by very young children, making it the perfect candidate for family play time. Avoid being tagged by the ‘explorer’ as they call out to try and find you, and remember, getting out of the pool is not allowed! Adding in objects like pool noodles and floaties to use as distractions for Marco is an easy way to add another level to the game. Just don’t let your laughter give you away!
